Matthew 6:5-7:6; Luke 6:37-42; Matthew 7:7-20; Luke 6:43-45; Matthew 7:21-29; Luke 6:46-49

What are you going to do about it? Living in our broken world, this is a question we need to answer. We are surrounded by sin, darkness, and evil, so we must decide what we are going to do about it. Also, as we are confronted with God’s truth, we have to answer what we are going to do about that. Jesus touches so many areas of our life in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). He challenges us to consider our motivation for ‘religious’ acts like prayer, fasting, and giving. He confronts the way we judge people, the way we worry, and the way we interact with money.

It is impossible to read these verses and not see areas of failure in our lives. We can finish reading, shrug our shoulders, and move on: or we can honestly confess our sins and failures and commit to a renewed way of living. We can build our house on the rock or the sand. We can keep living for ourselves, or make God the foundation of every part of our lives. So, what are you going to do about it?

Father God, help me to read your Scriptures and do something about it. Help me to not be merely a hearer of the word but a doer also. May your Spirit convict me where I fall short and empower me to walk in the fullness of life that Christ made available to me. Amen.

What area of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) do you need to apply to your life today?
