Nehemiah 7:4-8:12

We can read the Bible and not understand it. We often need people to come alongside us to make the Scriptures clear. Ezra read the law to the people, but it needed to be explained. We are told the Levites "instructed the people in the Law" (Nehemiah 8:7). They made it clear and gave the meaning of what was read. This is hopefully what every church does on Sunday mornings. We are called to follow in the footsteps of Ezra and the Levites who read the Scriptures and then helped people to understand it. This is not just a role to which pastors are called, but that all believers as priests are to fulfill.

As we read the Bible ourselves, we need to understand it, and then share it with others. We are all called to communicate clearly the meaning of the Bible. To do this we have to first understand it so we can share it with others. Every one of us is to be a disciple who makes disciples.

Father God, help me to understand your Scriptures and share it with others. Help me to never keep what you have done in my life to myself but share your glory and goodness with others. Amen.

What obstacles keep you from understanding the Bible and sharing it with others?
