2 Kings 2:1-25, 4:1-44

The ministries of Elisha and Elijah were filled with miracles. In reading the Bible, we may feel like miracles are common occurrences, and wonder why we do not see them as often today. Yet, if we really study the miracles of the Bible, many of them are clustered around a few distinct periods of history. One such period is the current one we are reading; in many ways, this period foreshadows the ministry of Jesus. In 2 Kings 2 and 4, we see Elisha participating in miraculous feedings, childbirth, and raising the dead.

Now consider the ministry of Jesus─whose life was marked by miraculous feedings, childbirth, and raising the dead. As with all of Scripture, it ultimately points us to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The work of Elisha points us to the greater work of Jesus. His miracles then point us to the miracles of Jesus, which in turn point us to the miracles which God is still doing in our lives and around us today.

Father God, thank you for the life and work of Jesus. Help me to see him in all things and bring you the glory you deserve today. Amen.

How have you recently seen Jesus at work in and through you?
