Psalm 144-145, 88-89

It may be easy to trust God after things have worked out─when a challenge is over, or when God shows up in a big way─but what about when we are still waiting? Do you find yourself easily praising and trusting God when you are waiting for an issue to be resolved or a prayer to be answered? This is the situation of Psalm 143. David calls out to God for mercy, relief from enemies, and for his life to be saved; but we do not see the answer. Many psalms show us the resolution, but not here. We are left waiting and wondering what is going to happen.

David knows God to be faithful, righteous, and loving; then he waits to see what he will do. Often, we are waiting for God to show up and do something. This waiting is an opportunity to grow our trust, confidence, and praise of God. He may not show up in the way we want or at the time we thought; but we can continue to trust God because of who he is, and praise him for all we have seen him do in our lives.

Father God, help me to trust you in the waiting. I thank you for all you have done for me. Increase my trust in you today. Amen.

How do you reconcile God's faithfulness and love with the fact that sometimes God does not answer our prayers, or show up when we feel like he should?
