Psalm 39-41, 53, 55, 58

The psalms is a model for us in crying out to God through varying circumstances of life. The focus of many of today's psalms are crying out to God amid pain and injustice. David does not turn to his sword or army to bring deliverance; he cries out to God. David is surrounded by the wicked in Psalm 39, 53, 55 and 58, in a pit in Psalm 40, and dealing with sickness in Psalm 41. There is nothing about his circumstances that would reveal God's love or presence, but his prayers remind him of these truths.

There are moments where it may seem like God has abandoned you, but when you cry out to him, you may be reminded that he is near and cares. I would encourage you to write down varying circumstances you face in life (joy, anxiety, fear, loneliness, etc.). Then find a psalm that puts your feelings into words. The next time you find yourself overwhelmed or confused, you can turn back to God's word and be reminded of the truth.

Father God, thank you that I can call out to you in every situation of life. Help me to faithfully turn to you and trust you. Thank you that, regardless of my sin or circumstance, you love and care for me. Amen.
