Psalm 12-17, 19-21

Have you felt isolated, alone, depressed, or struggling to make sense of life? David reminds us through his desperate situations that we are not alone when we are feeling the full weight of the brokenness of the world. In Psalm 12 and 14 he feels like he has been abandoned by everyone and lives in a world of moral darkness. In Psalm 13 he cries out feeling like he has been forgotten and ignored by God himself. In Psalm 17 he is surrounded by enemies who are seeking to kill him. We may not face these exact circumstances, but difficulty and hardship are universal experiences.

When we find ourselves struggling, we may be tempted to throw in the towel, become paralyzed with fear, or give up on God, but David shows us another option which is to run to God. He cries out to God amid overwhelming circumstances because he has confidence that despite his present situations, God is faithful. The present was overwhelming, but as David turns to God, he finds hope. Regardless of what today might bring, God is present, He is faithful, and He will see us through.

We need to grow this same trust and confidence in God— running to him, casting our cares upon him, and knowing he will be faithful to us.

Father God, thank you for your faithfulness in all circumstances of life. Help me to run to you for help, deliverance, and comfort through the trials of life. Amen.

What ultimately gives you the ability to trust God in all situations?
