1 Chronicles 23:1-25:31

I can remember as a kid watching my dad prepare for his backpacking adventures. He had a massive checklist of all the necessary items he needed and would spread them throughout our entryway to ensure that everything he needed made it on the trip. With a similar amount of attention, David begins preparing the kingdom for Solomon's rule in our reading today. He knows since he is "old and full of years" his reign will soon end and, before this happens, he begins to do everything he can to ensure a smooth transition. The focus of 1 Chronicles 23-25 is preparing the kingdom for the upcoming worship transition. The center of the nation's worship had moved to Jerusalem, but now a temple will house the ark rather than the tabernacle, which had been its home for hundreds of years. David wants to ensure that when he is gone, God will not be forgotten.

As you think about your life, what are you currently doing to prepare for your departure? Are you discipling anyone, investing in ministries that will last beyond you, and living in light of eternity? Let us live in a way that makes a difference far beyond our lives on earth.

Father God, help me to live for eternal things. Help me to know how to invest in the lives of others and to make a difference in my sphere of influence. Help me not to waste my life but to live for your glory. Amen.

What is one way you can more intentionally invest in the lives of others, knowing your time on earth is short?
