2 Samuel 17:15-29; Psalm 3, 63; 2 Samuel 18:1-19:30

Where do you turn in times of trouble? David found himself fleeing from his son and an army that sought to destroy him. He fled across the Jordan River to create distance between himself and the army but ultimately, he runs into the arms of God. He knows that God is his place of refuge and his protector as he describes in Psalm 3 and 63. He describes God as his shield, his glory, his sustainer, and his deliverer. Further, he knows that God is the one who loves him, satisfies him, and helps him.

When we find ourselves in times of difficulty, we may often look first to ourselves, our resources, or others to provide deliverance, when it is God that we should look to first. He alone is the one who can truly provide what we need. So, run to God. Find refuge in him. Make God the one in whom you find your protection.

Father God, thank you that you care for me and respond to my cries. Help me to seek you as my helper in times of need and my deliverer in moments of difficulty. Thank you that through Jesus, I know I will be delivered from hell and judgment. Amen.

What would help you to more quickly turn to God for help in times of need?
