Amos 7:1-9:15; Revelation 3:7-22; Psalm 131:1-3; Proverbs 29:23
You can communicate with the God of the universe! If that doesn’t amaze you, I don’t know what will. The God who made the world and made you wants to talk to you!
A large portion of the Bible is God communicating with his people. The letters to the churches in Revelation begin with, “These are the words of…” God wants to talk to his people and longs for them to listen. This is expressed in God’s expression at the end of the letters which is, “he who has an ear, let him hear…” So, how well are you listening to what God is saying? He speaks through his Scripture and the Spirit, and has spoken through his Son, so how well are you listening? Yet God doesn’t only want us to hear, he also wants us to talk to him.
Amos 7 recounts a conversation between God and Amos. God reveals a vision of a possible future and Amos asks God to forgive instead of bringing judgment and twice we are told “the Lord relented.” It is astounding to consider that God listens to Amos and brings about a different outcome. God truly does respond to prayers. We have seen this in Abraham, from the people in Nineveh, and now Amos. God is waiting to hear and respond to our prayers. So, are you a person of prayer? Are you calling out for God to act, forgive, and save? God always has ears to hear so we should always have tongues calling out to him.
Father God, thank you that you want to hear from me. Help me to always run to you, speak with you, and call out to you in all circumstances in life. Amen.
Question: How can you better listen and communicate with God?
