Ezekiel 44:1-45:12; 1 Peter 1:1-12; Psalm 119:17-32; Proverbs 28:8-10

What do you pay attention to? You may be fixated on the news, sports scores, or the weather channel, but we all pay too much attention to things that are meaningless and insignificant. God calls us to pay more attention to him than anything in the world.
God calls Ezekiel in 44:5 to “look carefully, listen closely, and give attention to everything I tell you.” His senses are to be attuned to the words of God. He is to block out all the peripheral things of life so that he can hear clearly from God. How well are you able to live out these instructions?

The challenge of heeding God’s truths above everything else is due to the world we live in. Peter describes our condition right at the beginning of his letter. He calls us “strangers in the world” who “have not seen him (Jesus)…do not see him now” yet live for him. Our eyes, ears, and attention are so easily drawn to the material world around us rather than the greater spiritual reality of God. So, we need to learn to direct our attention to God and to the ultimate, eternal home he will provide for us. This place is not our home, our lives are not to be consumed by the here and now, but instead, we are to look, listen, and give attention to God above all else.

Father God, thank you for the truth that Jesus lived out and your Scriptures reveal to me. Help me to walk in your ways, be attentive to your work, and live for your glory. Amen.

Question of the day: How can you pay closer attention to the things of God over the things of the world?
