Ezekiel 37:1-38:23; James 1:19-2:17; Psalm 117:1-2; Proverbs 28:1

When have you felt deep despair? Is there a time when you didn’t feel like you could go on? A time when you felt like throwing in the towel.

Ezekiel is given a picture of a seemingly hopeless Israel. The nation is pictured as a pile of dead bones, and it seems there is no future for the nation. Then God tells him to prophesy over the bones and they come back to life. God shows Ezekiel that with God we can never reach a condition where we are without hope. He will bring Israel back into the land and restore them as a nation. Then, even when they are attacked by other nations God will care for them. When God is on our side there is no reason to fear the things of the world.

Further, there is hope for us when we find ourselves struggling over the same sins. Ever feel like you are once again failing to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry? Ever feel like you are failing to live up to the salvation which Christ died to give you? Thankfully there is hope for us as well. Through God’s Spirit, we can overcome our besetting sins and walk in the freedom that Christ makes available to us.
So let us walk in the hope, the freedom, and the life which Christ purchased for us.

Father God, thank you for the hope I have in you. Help me to never live in despair, fear, or anxiety, but live in the confident hope you have given to me. Amen.

Question: What drains your hope and how can you remember the hope you have in Christ?
