Our lives are to make God look good. Titus 2:10 tells us that we are to “make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.” Think about the ways we generally make things look attractive. If you want to make your home look beautiful you might slap some new paint on it, tidy up, or even purchase some new furniture. If you want to make yourself look attractive you would probably take a shower, maybe get a haircut, wear your best clothes, and for women apply some makeup. We know what is necessary to make ourselves and our possessions look good, but what about God? How can we make him attractive?

Paul tells slaves that they are to make God look attractive by the way they respond to their masters. Their relationships, even extremely difficult ones, ultimately reflected on the God they worshiped. By extension, this means that we also can make God attractive by the way we live. If we claim to follow Jesus, then our lives will determine what outsiders think of him. Are our lives filled with the beauty of his love, joy, and peace for the world to see? We need to live in a way that shows the beauty of God and makes him appealing to a watching world. Israel failed to do this and reaped judgment, while we can walk in obedience to God and experience the fullness of life that he has made available through Christ. Our world needs to know the truth of the gospel but also its beauty/attractiveness as well.

Father God, thank you for the grace I have received in Jesus. Help me to show your beauty and glory to those around me. Amen.
