Jeremiah 49:23-50:46; Titus 1:1-16; Psalm 97:1-98:9; Proverbs 26:13-16

How are we to respond to the reality of judgment? Jeremiah has moved from judgment largely directed at the remnant of Judah to all of the surrounding nations. No one will escape God’s judgment, so everyone must be prepared for it. Jeremiah’s exhortation to the nations is to “seek the Lord” and make God their “true pasture.” Since judgment is coming, they need to run to the only one who can save them. This theme is repeated in Titus where Paul calls for the church to rest in “the hope of eternal life.” Further, we are to pursue holy/blameless lives which reflect the holiness we have already been granted by Christ. Finally, the psalmist encourages us to live with God as our king. We are to praise him and sing to him as the one who saves and the one who judges. The reality of future judgment is meant to shape and transform our lives today. It is not just a abstract reality but a truth that should compel us to live differently today.

God my Father, thank you that you are the good savior and judge of the world. Help me to apply your character to my life and live differently today in light of the reality of eternity and the judgment to come. Amen.

Question: How should the reality of future judgment change your life today?
