Jeremiah 48:1-49:22; 2 Timothy 4:1-22; Psalm 95:1-96:13; Proverbs 26:9-12

The Major Prophets can be difficult to work through, they are filled with endless warnings and judgments. This theme of God’s judgment is not isolated to the prophets but is seen throughout the Bible. Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:1 that Jesus “will judge the living and the dead.” Further, Psalm 96:13 says that God “will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.” The reality of judgment should cause us to live for God’s glory today. A day is coming when the full reality of God’s judgment will fall upon all, for some to refine and purify, for others to cast them from God’s presence forever. The one who will judge is the only one who is rightfully able to do so.

He is God, the Alpha and Omega, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the creator of things visible and invisible. He created the universe and the microscopic DNA in every living thing on Earth. God is serious about his plan, his message, and our response to his authority. Let us not be like many who stopped taking God seriously. This process often starts by getting so distracted by the worries and busyness of life that God is put on the shelf. Instead, we are to recognize the greatness of God above all else and put him first in our lives. He is the king and the judge, and the one we should worship above everything.

Father, help me to take your message and plan for my life more seriously. Help me not to become so busy with life that I stop pursuing you daily. Amen.
