Isaiah 37:1-38:22; Galatians 6:1-18; Psalm 65:1-13; Proverbs 23:24

Where do you turn when you have a need? Do you double down on your own strength or run to God? Notice the crisis that Hezekiah and Israel face. The most powerful army in their region, and possibly the world, is at their doorstep. There is no answer in their own strength, but in God there is hope, so they run to God by running to his prophet, Isaiah. In running to God, they remind themselves of who he is, “almighty…enthroned…made heaven and earth.” Then, in considering his power and might, they can find peace as they wait for God to work. The same is true for us when we run to God.

Running to God not only reminds us of God’s strength but our own weakness as well. Galatians 6:3 says, “If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” On our own we are nothing, but through Christ and the power of the Spirit, we are able to be the people he has called us to be. So let us be willing to acknowledge our weakness and run to a God of great strength.

Father God, thank you for hearing my cries. Thank you that you are real and true, and I can always rely on you. Help me to rely on you, your power and grace—and not on myself. Amen.

Question of the day: How can you continuously remind yourself of God’s power and your weakness?
