Job 23:1-27:23; 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11; Psalm 41:1-13; Proverbs 22:5-6

Job continually expresses his feeling that God has abandoned him. He feels like God is distant and cries out “If only I knew where to find him.” He wants to meet with God but doesn’t know how. You have probably felt this way at some point--feeling like despite your prayers and attempts to call out to God, he is unhearing and distant. Yet despite our feelings, the reality is that God is always with us. The reality of this truth is developed by Paul in 2 Corinthians when he says, “[God] set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit.” Through the Spirit, God is always with us. Our feelings don’t determine God’s presence, instead, his promise guarantees that he is there. So, the next time you feel like God has abandoned you, embrace the truth of God’s promise. Cling to the fact that as a child of God, he is with you, and his Spirit dwells within you. And because he is with you, you can always call out to him, cling to him, trust in him, and find comfort in him.

Father God, thank you for your presence in my life. Thank you that I can trust in your promises even when my emotions cause me to doubt. Help me to always cling to you through every situation I face. Amen.

Question: What difference should God’s continual presence make in your life?
