Job 8:1-11:20; 1 Corinthians 15:1-28; Psalm 38:1-22; Proverbs 21:28-29
What are the most important things in your life? If your home caught on fire and you could only take two things with you, what would you grab?
Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 details what the most important things of our faith are. Those things which are of “first importance.” In one word we could summarize the most important thing as Jesus. In one sentence it is the fact that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared to many people. Paul wants us to understand that these things are so important that if they are not true then our faith is useless, we are liars and we are to be pitied by others. Ouch! Yet Paul knows these things are true and he banks his eternal life on them.
If Jesus is what is of central importance we may wonder where he is in a book like Job. He is not mentioned by name, because the incarnation hasn’t happened yet, but we can see glimpses of him. Job cries out for a judge in 9:15 and we know that Jesus is our judge as Acts 10:42 says. Further, he is the arbitrator that Job desperately asks for in 9:33. He is our mediator, our way, and the one who enables us to approach God’s throne with confidence. So as we read Scripture, and as we live our lives, we should always see glimpses of Jesus, the one of “first importance,” in all we do.
Father God, thank you for Jesus. Thank you that he is alive and has given me eternal life as well. Help me to see him at work in my life and to live for his glory. Amen.
Question: How can you more clearly see Jesus in all you do?
