JOB 38:1-40:5

After thirty seven chapters of people speaking, God intervenes. God begins an argument describing his superiority over everything else. He wants Job to understand that he is God and Job is not. As God, he created the world and sustains everything. As God, he knows all things and humans do not. Job is forced to  acknowledge he was wrong in claiming God as unjust. He thought God was being unfair to him when actually Job was speaking about things which he did not know. Like Job, we can often put ourselves in the place of God. We think if we were in control of the universe we would do something differently, when we have no idea. We worship a good God who created the best possible universe so, in humility, we need to submit before him. We can wonder and question why things are the way they are, but ultimately, we need to stand on the fact that thankfully God is God and we are not.

Father God, thank you that you are the sovereign king over the universe. Help me to rest in this fact and not play god. Help me to be humble before you and others, and rest in your grace, mercy, and love. Amen.

Question: In what areas of your life do you take on the role of god, rather than allowing God to be God?
