GENESIS 30:25-31:55

Being a person of integrity involves being honest and upright, while also having the idea of being transparent. Our character is not to be divided between deception and truthfulness but is to be always marked by honesty. We have seen again and again that Jacob was a man marked by deception which is what his name means. Jacob was not alone in having a lack of integrity as his father-in-law continually sought to thwart their agreements and even Rachel steals her family's idols as they leave. This family lived in a sea of deception, lies, and selfishness. Imagine if your relationships were marked by these same behaviors. There would instantly be a lack of trust and painful suspicion towards each other. God calls us away from these behaviors and towards that which reflects his character. His holiness should be evident in how we live and his faithfulness and integrity as well. If we want to gain a hearing for the gospel with others, then it is critical that we prove that we are trustworthy through our words and actions.

Father God, thank you that I can trust you. Thank you that you will never deceive or lie to me. Help me to treat others as you have treated me with all honesty, grace, and mercy. Help me to reflect you and bring you glory. Amen.

Question: What is one area of your life where you can pursue greater integrity?
