GENESIS 15:1-17:27

The main story of the Bible is God seeking a relationship with his wayward creation. One of the primary ways he does this is through a series of covenants. A biblical covenant is a contract or agreement entered into by God for the blessing of humanity, and especially those who trust in him. One of these covenants is the Abrahamic Covenant; a promise from God that land, seed and blessing would come to Abraham and his descendants. Land, in that they will be given Canaan, seed, in that Abram would come to have descendants as many as the stars in the sky and blessing, in that ultimately the Messiah/snake crusher would come from Abraham. These promises are so astounding that Abram laughed at them. He couldn't believe that something so wonderful could come true. God promised multiple times what he would do and yet still Abram found it hard to believe. We may find ourselves in the same place. In reading the promises of God we may think that they might be true for others, but can they really be true for us? Yet as Abram soon discovered, God is faithful, unchanging, and all-powerful so we can trust what he has said.

Father God, help me to trust you. I confess that I find it hard to believe the things you have said. Help me to believe what you have said and trust in your character and word. Amen.

Question: What can you do to increase your trust in the promises of God?
