Matthew 9:18-38

What do you do and where do you go when you have run out of options? Where would you go if no doctors could cure your child? Where would you turn if you had an incurable disease? Where would you go if you were blind and nothing could restore your sight? Where would you turn if you encountered someone who was demon possessed? We meet the potential answer to all of these questions in Matthew 9:18-38. The man with the sick child who had just died ran to Jesus. The woman with an incurable bleeding issue reaches out to Jesus. The blind men call out to Jesus. The crowd brought the demon possessed man to Jesus. Surely these people had tried a myriad of other options to provide a solution and none of them worked. Jesus alone was able to meet their specific need.

Jesus reveals his power in these miraculous healings pointing us to the fact that no matter how big our problem is, Jesus is the one to whom we need to turn. He is the one we need to run to, call out to, and seek. This does not mean that he always fixes our problems in the way we want, but he is the only one who has the ability to transform, redeem, and heal this broken world and our broken lives. So the next time you do not know where to go. Or the next time you face a problem too big for you. Run to the one who can do something about it, run to Jesus.

Father God, continue to reveal your power in healing this broken world. Help me to run, call, and seek you in the midst of troubles. Amen.

How can you make Jesus the one you turn to first when you experience difficulty?
