December 25

1 John 4:7-5:21; 2 John 1:1-13; 3 John 1:1-15

Merry Christmas! This may seem like a strange passage to read on Christmas, but tucked into 1-3 John is a glimpse of the true meaning of Christmas. Zero in on 1 John 4:9-10. These verses tell us that Jesus’ coming on Christmas (whether that was December 25 or not) is all about God’s love. There may be circumstances in life that cause us to question whether we are loved, but Christmas makes it clear we are loved.

Whether we are celebrating with family or friends, or alone this Christmas, we are not truly alone because of what Jesus has done for us. His coming loudly proclaims that we are loved more than we can imagine. As we celebrate Christmas today, let us make it a celebration of God’s love for us. God loves us, is with us, and Christ died for us, so we can rest in this love today and every day.

Father God, thank you that you showed your love through the sending of Jesus. Help me to realize and believe the extravagance of this love and love others as well. Amen.

As you celebrate Christmas today, how can you share that ultimately, Christmas is about God’s love?
