Philemon 1:1-25; Philippians 1:1-2:11
What does it mean to walk worthy in the Gospel? It means we should be seeking Christ every waking moment. Most days I start my conversation with God by asking Him to help me know him more today. Before I doze off at night, I often ask myself how I became more like Christ today. On the surface those are probably great questions, my problem is in the time between those conservations. All too often the frustrations of the day seek to sabotage me. Unlike Paul’s prison, my prison consists of; out-of-state plates pulling out in front of me, tools breaking on the job site, and my own body slowly decaying. Those things can quickly take my eyes off Christ and negatively impact my attitude.
By contrast, Paul’s attitude is that of Christ’s. Paul sums it up best in Philippians 1:20. Christ will use me and my body to glorify him. We do not need to worry about how we will be used. We need to focus on Christ, not take our eyes off Him. When we seek Him wholeheartedly, and faithfully respond to the Holy Spirit’s calling, the rest will fall into place. When I am wrapped up in him instead of letting the car from Wisconsin tick me off, I am going to be praying for that person to know Christ. When my body hurts, I am to rejoice always and just maybe someone will see me and say ‘I want what he has’.
Dear God, help me to know you more. I want to be used by you and bring glory to your name. I ask for blinders from the distractions and guidance from your Spirit, Amen.
How can you keep your eyes on things eternal?
