Acts 8:1-9:43
As we look at the world around us, we see it is changing faster than ever before. There are changes in politics, economics, and technology. What does not change is our relationship with God. In the UK during the late 1700s, society had slipped into immorality and decadence. Church participation had drastically declined, similarly, as it has globally in recent years. Then John Wesley and George Whitefield, prompted by The Holy Spirit, began to preach and thousands met Jesus for the first time. Robert Raikes began teaching Sunday School in 1780. Within five years more than 300,000 thousand children had been reached. One result of the Holy Spirit moving in those nations was the slavery abolition act of 1833. Being prompted by the Spirit, Philip preached in Samaria and, in one of my favorite stories, ministered to the Ethiopian. It is exciting to know we have the power of the Holy Spirit to change the world.
It is easy to get caught up in the doom and gloom of today but that is a waste of time. God can and will call any one of us to make Christ known. I do not know what that looks like for you, but I know if we continue to pursue God and his heart, He will make it abundantly clear to us.
God, help us to pray more and to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit every day. I pray that our families, nation, and world will be transformed by knowing you.
How can I make Christ known in my circles?
