Mark 16:19-20; Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-2:47

Everyone loves receiving gifts. The anticipation of staring at a wrapped box, wondering what is inside, and then the slow (or quick) unwrapping of it. Jesus had promised a gift of a Helper in John 16, and we read about his unveiling today. Jesus had to go away for the gift to come. He left his disciples at the Ascension where he went to the right hand of the Father and shortly after, the gift of the Holy Spirit came to indwell all believers.

Before this, the Holy Spirit would empower specific believers for specific tasks for a specific period, but he did not remain with them indefinitely. Now the Holy Spirit is a permanent gift to teach, empower, guide, comfort, and intercede. God’s love has caused him to give us the greatest gift we could ever request in the person of the Holy Spirit. If you have placed your faith in Christ, the gift is yours, but are you intentionally using this gift (the person of the Holy Spirit) to its full potential? You have the gift, unwrap it, and use it today.

Father God, thank you for your Spirit. May I live with him in a way that brings you glory and allows me to represent you well. Amen.

How can you more intentionally interact with the Holy Spirit?
