Isaiah 44:6-48:11
One of the things that proves God’ superiority is he knows the future. He is omniscient, so he knows all things. He also has foreknowledge, which means his omniscience includes events which have not yet happened. Often in Scripture we have God communicating through his prophets to reveal this foreknowledge. God says, “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come (Isaiah 46:10),” and “I foretold the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and I made them known” (Isaiah 48:3).
One of the most interesting examples of this comes in the prophecies about Cyrus. Over a hundred years before his reign and before his empire even existed, Cyrus is mentioned in Isaiah 45. Skeptics of the Bible can only say this must have been included after the rest of Isaiah was written (despite no evidence) because the prediction/ prophecy is so exact. This prophecy was not solely to amaze us but was also to give Judah hope. It was to remind them that no matter how scary their circumstances were, the God who provides salvation holds history in his hands, so there is nothing to fear.
Father God, thank you that you know everything. Thank you that you know my future and the future of the world. Help me to entrust my present circumstances and my future to you. Amen.
What fears do you have about the future and how should God's foreknowledge change those?
