Psalm 107, 111, 112, 113, 114

What have you praised and celebrated in the last few days? It is hard for us not to praise and commend, the only question is what we are praising. The psalms are a beautiful place to remind ourselves of why God alone is ultimately worthy of our praise. Psalm 107 begins by reminding us that God is worthy of praise because "his love endures forever." No matter how beautiful the love we have received from friends and family, they are just a shadow of the eternal love God gives. Even in the midst of difficult circumstances which the psalm describes, God is always displaying his "unfailing love." So we should praise God for his love. Psalm 111 tells us we should praise God for his great works. His love is not just an abstract concept but displays itself all around us. He gives food and redemption, so we can praise him for his material and spiritual blessings. These blessings are experienced now and will continue for all eternity. Notice how Psalm 112:6-9 describes the security that God brings. Everything in this world can be taken from us, but God and his gifts will never end.

Therefore, we should remember God's love, works, and the security he brings, and praise him. We can start now and continue through all we do, to proclaim the glory and greatness of God. He truly is worthy of praise.

Father God, help me to praise you in all I do. Help me to never forget your surpassing greatness over everything in this world. Amen.

How can you express a heart of praise to God today?
