Proverbs 8:1-10:32

The voices we pay attention to often determine the trajectory of our lives. Who we listen to will lead our lives. In Proverbs, there are two voices competing for attention. These voices are wisdom and folly. One voice speaks to a path that leads to life, while the other path leads to death. They both may sound enticing. They both seem to offer wonderful things. Only one (wisdom) can deliver what is offered.

Consider for a moment the voices you hear daily. Do their words match with wisdom or folly? As we continue from Proverbs 10 to the end of the book, we will be bombarded with wisdom, but, for us to actually be wise, we need to listen, heed, and apply what we find there. If we fail to embrace wisdom, then we will find ourselves being dragged away by the folly of our broken hearts and broken world. If we listen to folly, we will reap the disastrous results she brings.

Father God, thank you for your wisdom. Help me to apply what I read and, in doing so, experience the abundant life Christ has made available. Help me not to be enticed by folly, but recognize that life is found in you. Amen.

During your day where do you encounter wisdom? Where do you encounter folly?
