Psalm 68-70, 86, 101

What do you think of when you think of God? This is one of the most important questions for us to answer. It is critical because our view of God determines how frequently and in what circumstances we run to God. One of the attributes of God we see highlighted in our psalms today is his power. Psalm 68 describes God as blowing away his enemies like smoke, riding the clouds, and shaking the earth. Psalm 69 describes God as the "Lord Almighty," the one who is over all the armies of heaven and earth and is more powerful than anything else. Psalm 86 says that "no deeds can compare with yours."

The more we understand God's power the more we will call upon God to intervene in our lives. He can do something about the pain, trauma, obstacles, and hurdles we face in life; so we should call upon him. This is the model of the psalms and the model of Jesus in calling out to the Father. There is no circumstance of life God cannot handle; therefore, no situation should keep us from calling out to him.

Father God, help me to be quick to run to you. Thank you for being powerful and able to do something about the brokenness in my life and in this world. Amen.

How does God's power make you want to run to him in prayer?
