Psalm 27-32

We have consistently encountered a variety of psalms including laments, praise, thanks, trust, and now in Psalm 32 we are introduced to a wisdom psalm. Wisdom takes two primary forms in the Bible: proverbial wisdom which comes in the form of a concentrated expression of truth (think the book of Proverbs) and reflective wisdom like Job and Ecclesiastes, where wisdom is to be derived from a story rather than short, pat answers. The psalm begins by having us reflect upon a blessed life. As a culture we may think that blessing is found in the abundance of material possessions, physical health, or happiness, but this psalm points us to the blessing of forgiveness. David encourages everyone to call out to God so they can experience this blessing.

The only result of holding on to our sin is to waste away, while confession leads to forgiveness, intimacy with God, and joy. This psalm encourages us to reap the blessing of forgiveness, which is available to God's people, to those who are quick to acknowledge and turn from their sin.

Father God, I confess my sin to you. I confess that I am prone to wander from you and to live for my own will rather than yours. Help me to continually experience the forgiveness, life, and joy that you make available to those who walk with you. Amen.

How is forgiveness a blessing?
