2 Samuel 6:12; 1 Chronicles 15:1-28; 2 Samuel 6:12-16; 1 Chronicles 15:29; 2 Samuel 6:17-19; 1 Chronicles 16:1-43; 2 Samuel 6:19-23

David left the ark of God with Obed-Edom until he realized that God's presence was a blessing. After the death of Uzzah in yesterday's reading, he was scared that God's presence might mean judgment for God's people instead of blessing. We see throughout the Bible that God being present with his people is one of his greatest desires and most beautiful gifts. God’s presence should be what everyone seeks. God walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, he appeared to Jacob in a wrestling match, Moses in a bush, Israel in the tabernacle and ark, and dwelt with his people in several other ways.

Now he dwells with us through his Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells his people today and is God's presence with us. This gift enables us to experience God's power, gifts, love, and especially his presence. As we go about our lives, we can forget that God dwells with us, but it is critical that we remember. The fact that he dwells with us assures us of our identity as his children and ensures we will dwell with God forever. Let us remember God is with us today and experience the peace, courage, and joy he longs to give us.

Father God, thank you that you dwell with me through your Spirit. Jesus, thank you that you died, rose, and ascended to heaven so that your Spirit could come. Spirit, thank you that you live within me and enable me to live for God's glory. Amen.

How should remembering God’s presence affect the way you live?

I have been reading Billy Graham’s book “ The Holy Spirit” and your devotional today was an added encouragement and awareness of Him in my life. I think of God and Jesus so now I am becoming more aware of the Holy Spirit within me.
