Jeremiah 12:1-15:21

Honesty is the best policy. Though we may believe this idea, I wonder whether we embrace it in our relationship with God. Sometimes we may find ourselves filtering what we tell God, even though he already knows everything. If we are going to be brutally honest with anyone, it should be easiest to do so with God. Notice the way Jeremiah speaks to God in chapter 12: "I bring a case before you...I would speak with you about your justice." Jeremiah is honest about asking God how his justice matches with the wicked prospering. He does not doubt in isolation, he does not just ruminate over the facts, he takes it straight to the throne of God. He wants God to answer his questions and help him to understand.

In the same way, we need to take our concerns, questions, and requests straight to God. He can handle our emotions and anything else we can throw at him. So let us learn to be honest with him.

Father God, help me to take everything in life to you. Help me to bring my hurt, pain, doubts, concerns, joy, and elation to you. Amen.

What keeps you from being fully honest with God?
