Mark 6:30-56
Are you good at allowing past lessons you learned change your present? Do you remember what God did yesterday and use that to trust him more today? The night after feeding the 5,000, Jesus’ disciples were overwhelmed by the wind on the lake. Amid their exhaustion, Jesus walked out to them on top of the water. We are told that they “were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves.” They had participated in Jesus’ feeding, but they failed to understand. They did not understand that Jesus’ power which was revealed yesterday was available to them today. Jesus revealed his power through healings, exorcisms, feedings, and even walking on water, but people were slow to understand and apply these things to their lives.
The same is often true of us. We can believe that Jesus fed the 5,000 and walked on water, but these truths fail to transform our lives. We can see his power in the past; yet, we find ourselves overwhelmed by our present. We can so easily lose sight of God and his greatness when we become fixated on our present worries. So, let us learn the lesson the disciples did not. Let us believe God has made his power available to us through the Spirit so we can walk in faith not fear.
Father God, help me to know and trust in your power and love. May your love and strength lead me to be courageous and without fear today. Amen.
