Romans 9:25-10:13
Jesus is the great equalizer. He is the way, the truth, the life, and the source of salvation for the world. It is through him that anyone regardless of their sins, ethnic background, or education can find life. Since Jesus is the only way to God, he is either our way to God or the “stone that causes men to stumble.”
Paul wrote Romans roughly 30 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection. During this time a massive number of Gentiles had come to faith. What began as a largely Jewish movement, has now become a multi-ethnic reality. In many places the number of Gentiles was much higher than Jews, which caused people to wonder what would happen to Israel. Did God still care about them? Did he still have a plan for them? In Romans 9-11, Paul helps to deal with these issues, but first he begins by clarifying the reality of the gospel. All people are saved by faith in Jesus. Many Jewish people struggled with accepting Jesus as the Messiah, seeing him as the end of the law, and submitting to God’s plan. Yet salvation for all people, Jews and Gentiles, comes through faith. This was true in Paul’s day, and it is true in ours. So, our response should be to ensure we believe and proclaim Christ to everyone we can.
Father God, help me to proclaim the message of Christ to everyone I can. Thank you for offering salvation to sinners like me. Amen.
