Mark 11:27-12:17
How much do you value truth? How much are you willing to change your life to conform to the demands of truth? The religious leaders reveal multiple times they are more concerned about keeping the status quo than they are about knowing and walking in the truth. They ask Jesus questions but do not really care about the answers and other times only do it to “catch him in his words” or trick him. They have stopped valuing truth and only care about their comfort and positions of power. Are our hearts ever like that mentality? Are we willing to give up things we value to make room for the more valuable reality of truth?
When Jesus confronted them with truth, their initial response was to arrest him rather than submit to his teaching. They refused to make the changes necessary to apply Jesus’ words. Though, we may not want to acknowledge our similarities to the Pharisees, we must admit it is always easier to hear truth than to apply it. As we read or hear God’s teachings, we must stop and consider how it should affect us. Let us not just be hearers of his word but doers also. Let us conform our lives to the truth and not let it exit our ears as soon as it enters.
Father God, thank you that you are a God who has communicated to me. Help me not just to hear your truth but live it out. May your Spirit enable me to respond to all you have taught me. Amen.
What would help you to more intentionally apply what you learn from your daily readings?
