Hebrews 3:1-19
What are the key ingredients to a healthy relationship? You probably need a dash of transparency, a few cups of time, some teaspoons of shared life experiences, and faithfulness/ dependability that goes all the way through. If God is who we are going to ultimately rely upon, then we desperately need to believe that he is faithful. If you can depend on someone because they are reliable, then a healthy relationship can ensue. If they are unreliable, inconsistent, and all over the place, then friendship is impossible.
Hebrews 3 presents Jesus as the one who is supremely faithful. He "is faithful as the Son over God's house." He never sinned, always walked by faith, and persevered to the end. Since he is faithful, we can trust him with our lives both now and for all eternity. Everyone else will fail us at some point, but Jesus never will. We are prone to wander and go astray, to sin and unbelief, but thankfully, Jesus is none of those things.
In response to Christ’s faithfulness, we are to seek to be faithful followers of him by fixing our thoughts on him, having a firm confidence and hope in him, not hardening our hearts, and entering his rest. His faithfulness should compel our faithfulness and our willingness to prioritize him over everything else.
Father God, thank you that you are a faithful God. Thank you that Jesus faithfully endured suffering and death for me. Help me to remain faithful to you and prioritize you above all else. Amen.
How have you seen God's faithfulness in your life, and how should you respond to that faithfulness?
