Titus 2:1-15
I am so thankful for teachers. I send my kids to school every day and am grateful that there are a multitude of people who daily teach my kids. I often look at their work and proclaim I could never do what they do. And that is true, but the challenge of Titus 2 is every leader is meant to be a teacher, and every believer is a leader, so we are all called to be teachers.
As you read through Titus 2 it is hard to make it more than one sentence without the words teach, teaches, and teaching. Similarly, we should probably not make it more than one day without teaching someone. Titus is told to teach everyone “what is in accord with sound doctrine.” He is then called to teach each group in the church the specific ways they are to obey Christ.
A good teacher is familiar with the curriculum. Notice the richness of the message we are to teach in verses 12-14. We are to proclaim the grace of Jesus, his salvation, the righteous living that should flow from our salvation, and the return of Christ. The message we want to proclaim is Jesus! As we interact with people we should be trying to point them to our savior, our king, and the redeemer. So, get ready to stand in front of the class (or one person) and get ready to teach!
Father God, help me to be a teacher for you. Help me to point others to Christ and the relationship he longs to have with every person. Amen.
How could you equip yourself to be a better teacher for Christ?
